Craig speaks at Asia Retail Conference in Mumbai
In the current economic climate, you could be forgiven for thinking there is little good news to be had when it comes to retailing. Not so, says UK retail expert Craig Phillipson, who's just returned from a speaking engagement at the Asia Retail Conference in Mumbai.
Craig spoke alongside representatives from some of the biggest names in Indian retail, such as Reliance Retail and Ezone, and was impressed by the overwhelmingly positive atmosphere at the conference.
"The Indian market is still growing at a rate of 6% and the general feeling at the conference was one of continued confidence in Indian retailing, albeit tinged with a little caution," said Craig.
Craig's presentation, ‘Maximising Sales with Minimum Investment', provided a wealth of useful information for achieving optimum sales in an uncertain financial climate.
His comments were well received by Indian retailers, who have responded to the global economic crisis by taking a ‘back to basics' approach to sales and marketing.
"Indian retailers have recognised the need to ensure that the fundamental techniques of good retailing are in place," said Craig, "More attention than ever is being put on good store layout as the basis for maximising sales. It's a very sensible strategy."
Craig's next speaking engagement is at the Global Retailing Conference in Arizona on 2 and 3 April.
"I'm very much looking forward to seeing how growth strategies compare across different continents," said Craig.
